Enrollment Verification for Loan Deferment

How do students verify their enrollment for loan deferment purposes?

The University of Michigan participates in the National Student Clearinghouse. Four times during the fall and winter terms and once during the spring, summer and spring/summer terms, the university submits a report of the student's enrollment status and anticipated date of graduation to the Clearinghouse which, in turn, supplies verification of enrollment to lending agencies.

Most lenders and loan servicing organizations participate in the Clearinghouse. With this automated process, paper deferment forms do not need to be completed.

If the lender does not participate in the National Student Clearinghouse, students may submit their loan deferment forms by mail or in-person. Processing time normally takes one week.
