Add External Links to Course Menu

Add a Link via the Redirect Tool

 

Canvas provides an option for faculty to add links to external resources on the course menu through the use of a "Redirect Tool". To add a link:

  1. Go to Settings within your course.
  2. Click on the Apps tab at the top of the screen.

  3. In the "Filter by name" box, enter Redirect Tool.

  4. Click on the search result (the image with the blue arrow) and click +Add App.

  5. Enter the details for the link.

    1. In the Name field, enter the display name for the link exactly as you would like it to appear in the menu.
    2. URL Redirect - This is the website address to the resource (e.g. https://www.umflint.edu).
    3. Check the boxes for Force open in new tab and Show in Course Navigation.
  6. Click Add App.

The link will now appear in the course menu. This process can be repeated to add multiple links with the Redirect Tool.
