Schedule a Zoom Meeting in Canvas

To schedule a Zoom meeting in Canvas:

  1. In your course menu, click Zoom 1.3.
  2. Click the Schedule a Meeting button in the top right of the page.
  3. First, set a name if desired (defaults to course name) and access options:
    • Sections and Groups - limit access to a specific course section or group, if desired. By default, everyone in the course can access a meeting.
    • Viewers - limit which sections can access the recording of the meeting. By default everyone in the class can access published recordings.
  4. Enter the meeting details.

    The key settings are the following:
    • When: The date and time of the meeting.
    • Duration: How long the meeting will run. This not a hard limit. Meetings can exceed the specified duration.
    • Recurring Meeting (optional): If you meet on the same days and times each week, use the recurring meeting settings to schedule each session for the semester all at once. 
    • Security: One option must be selected to control access to the meeting.
      • Passcode: Anyone attempting to join will need to enter a passcode.
      • Waiting Room: Anyone who joins will be sent to a waiting room. The host must specifically allow people to join from the waiting room.
      • Require authentication to join: Requires anyone joining to be signed in with a valid UMich account.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the page to save the settings and create the meeting.
