M-Library, Remote/Library Access
Issue
When visiting a U-M website, the URL may automatically update and append ".proxy.lib.umich.edu". This behavior may prevent login to some U-M websites or may cause repeated re-direction and make a webpage inaccessible.
- As an example, https://mcommunity.umich.edu/ becomes https://mcommunity-umich-edu.proxy.lib.umich.edu/
Resolution
If the URL is changing automatically, the Lean Library browser extension is likely installed, enabled and set up to "Automate my authentication and skip associated pop-ups." To stop the automatic behavior, you can either: disable the automatic setting, disable the extension, or uninstall the extension and switch to the browser bookmark.
Disable Automatic Setting
- Go to the Extensions page for your browser
- Select the 3 dots and click Options
- Un-check Automate my authentication and skip associated pop-ups
- Click Save
URLs should no longer automatically change, instead a "Get access to this site" pop-up should appear (screenshot attached in Attachments) on pages where the extension detects a resource, ebook, or article online that the library has a subscription for.
Disable or Uninstall the Extension
- Go to the Extensions page for your browser
- Disable the Lean Library extension by toggling the slider
- Uninstall the Lean Library extension by clicking the option to Remove (you may need to click the 3 dots to view this option)
Set Up Bookmark
