Dropbox: Signing Out of the Desktop Application / Client

Issue

How do I sign out of the Dropbox desktop application/client.

Resolution

There are two ways to sign out of the Dropbox desktop application on Windows and macOS devices.

Windows

  • Windows Method 1
    1. Launch the Dropbox desktop app from the Start menu
    2. Click the three bars icon (hamburger menu) in the upper left corner of the app
    3. Hover over File in the drop-down menu and select Preferences...
    4. Click the Account tab
    5. Click the Sign out button
    6. Click OK from the "Sign out from this computer" pop-up
  • Windows Method 2
    1. Click the Dropbox icon and open the Dropbox desktop application from the system tray of your computer
    2. Click your avatar (picture or initials) in the top right corner of the pop-up menu
    3. Click Preferences from the drop-down menu
    4. Click the Account tab
    5. Click the Sign out button
    6. Click OK from the "Sign out from this computer" pop-up

macOS

  • macOS Method 1
    1. Launch the Dropbox desktop app from Finder
    2. Click Account in the lower-left corner
    3. Click Preferences
    4. Click the Account tab
    5. Click the Sign out button
    6. Click OK from the "Sign out from this computer" pop-up
  • macOS Method 2
    1. Launch the Dropbox desktop app from Finder
    2. Click the Dropbox icon in the top left of the Mac window next to the Apple icon
    3. Click Preferences
    4. Click the Account tab
    5. Click the Sign out button
    6. Click OK from the "Sign out from this computer" pop-up
