Installing PGP Encryption

Intended Audience:

This article is for the benefit of the faculty and staff on campus who want to install PGP Encryption to encrypt sensitive data.

Requirements:

In order to follow these steps, you will need a university-owned computer updated to Windows 7 or later. Additionally, you will need to be on campus or connected to the VPN while off-campus.

Installing PGP Encryption:

PGP Encryption is not shared with anyone outside of ITS, if you need the installer, please call the ITS Helpdesk at 810-762-3123. A technician will then send you the installer and guide you through the installation. If you'd like to attempt the installation on your own, please see the steps below.

  1. Run the PGPDesktop Windows Installer Package
  2. At this point, the software will ask if you want to install it. Click Run
  3. Click I accept the license agreement and then Next >

  4. Click Next >

  5. You may be asked to allow this app to make changes to your device. Select Yes
  6. The software is now in the process of installing, it will take a few moments to complete. Once it is finished, it will request that you restart the computer. Confirm that all of your information is saved, and you have nothing else open. When you are ready to restart the computer click Yes.

  7. Once the computer fully restarts PGP Encryption should be installed on your computer.
