ITS Lab Multi-function Printers, as pictured below
Intended Audience
This article is for the benefit of students of the University of Michigan-Flint who would like to use the lab printers.
Requirements
To follow this article you must have a current valid affiliation with the University, have access to your UM-Flint account, and a valid Mcard, which is advised but not required.
Registering Your Mcard (First-time use)
Some users will need to associate their card, if you need to do this you can follow the steps below to associate your card.
- Swipe your Mcard on the printer.
- When the message "Your card is not known in the system" appears, click Yes.
- Type your uniqname on the touch screen. Click Yes.
- Type your current password on the touch screen. Click Done.
- Click Confirm to associate your Mcard.
- Your card is now associated!.
Printing to the Printer
- On the application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) on the computer, you are working on select one of the following queues from the print settings menu and click print.
- Black and White: MAIN on umf-papercut
- Color: MAIN-COLOR on umf-papercut
- Please note: that there is a file size limit of 1GB or smaller on files that are sent to the printers. This limit is enforced to maintain the stability and performance of the system for all users.
- Swipe your Mcard at any PaperCut printer to login, black and white and color jobs release from the same printers.
- Check in the upper right corner of the screen for your uniqname to verify that you have logged in successfully.
- An unsuccessful swipe will list "badcardswipe" as the logged in user your sent prints will not show up. Sign out and try again.
- Swipe your Mcard to log in to the printer
- You should now see the document show up in the queue on the touch screen.
- Highlight the document you wish to release
- Then click Print to print the selected documents, or Print All to print everything currently in the queue.
Scanning and Sending to Your Email
Please note that scanning to your email does not cost any print credits, as no toner is being used.
- First, load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or lay them on the glass.
- Swipe your Mcard to log in to the printer
- Press the Scan button located in the middle of the touch screen.
- Load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer, or lay them on the glass.
- Once here click the Email option
- Your university email will automatically be added to the To: field. You can ONLY send it to your own email address.
- Then press the Start Button located on the touch screen.
Scanning to Google Drive
In addition to the "Scan To Email" feature, the lab printers also allow for scanning documents to your Google Drive. For more information, please read our article on the topic by clicking here.
Making Copies
- First, load the desired documents into the tray FACE-UP on the top of the printer or place them on the glass.
- Swipe your Mcard to log in to the printer.
- Then press the Copy button located on the touch screen.
- Load the desired documents into the tray on the top of the printer or place them on the glass.
- Make any edits you would like to the settings. For double-sided copies, choose from the "2-sided Print" options below:
- 1->1 Sided (Default): Prints the front side (face-up page if you are using the tray, face-down if you are scanning) on one page.
- 1->2 Sided: Prints the front side on one page similar to 1->1 Sided.
- 2->2 Sided: Prints both sides of a paper on to 2 sides of another page (makes a full copy of it).
- 2->1 Sided: Prints both sides of a paper on to two separate pages (front page on one, back page on another).
- Use the touch screen to enter the number of copies you would like to be made.
- Finally, press the Start Button on the touch screen.
Forgot your Mcard? No Problem!
- Instead of swiping your Mcard to access your prints click Alternate login on the touch screen.
- Type your uniqname on the touch screen. Click Yes.
- Type your current password on the touch screen. Click Done.
- You should now be able to see your print jobs, access the copy function, or scan to email.
Additional Information
- If you do not swipe your card properly or there is an issue with the machine reading your card it will log you in as “badcardswipe.” To fix this, simply log out or wait for the timer to auto log out and then try and swipe your Mcard again.
- If the printer has a black screen and seems unresponsive, it is likely in Sleep Mode. The "Power Saver" button will glow green if this is the case, and pressing it will wake the printer back up.
