Regent's Hierarchical Constituency (RHC)

Summary

A summary of how the Regent's Hierarchical Constituency (RHC) value is calculated.

Body

Overview

The Regent's Hierarchical Constituency (RHC) is the top-ranking constituency value for a constituent. All constituents roll up to one of the following four RHC values, ranked as such:

  1. Alumnus
  2. Alum Deg/Non-Deg
  3. Parent
  4. Non-Alumni

Examples

  • If a parent is also an alumnus, they will be given the Alumnus RHC value because it is of higher rank
  • If a parent is a non-alum, they will be given the Parent RHC value because it ranks above Non-Alumni

Organizations

RHC values continue on to include organizations:

  1. Corporate Foundation
  2. Private Corporation-Alum
  3. Private Corporation-Non-Alum
  4. Professional Foundation
  5. Family Foundation
  6. Other Organization

Constituencies

Constituents can have many Constituencies on their record. The RHC should not be confused with these individual Constituencies which include the RHC values listed above, and extend to values such as:

  • Donor
  • Committee member
  • Planned giver
  • Staff
  • Student
  • Volunteer
  • Etc.

The RHC factors in all Constituencies for a constituent and selects the highest ranking value.

Notes

There are a few "gotchas" that you'll want to be aware of:

  • If you're looking to pull only Parents, don't use the RHC since parents who are alumni will be given the Alumnus RHC. Query parents using the Constituency field.
  • Students are given the RHC of Non-Alumni though they do not have the individual Non-Alum constituency value.
  • The RHCs of Alumnus, Alum Deg/Non-Deg, and Non-Alumni are mutually exclusive. i.e., constituents have only one of these three values. Integrity checks exist to ensure this is true.
