What does it do?
This process allows a user to remove constituents from a marketing effort after it is activated.
Why is this done?
It is best practice to ensure that the constituents in a marketing effort truly receive the communication. Once an effort is activated no constituents can be added, but it is sometimes necessary to remove them. Most commonly this is when the final audience is reduced between when the data was pulled and when the communication is actually sent.
e.g. a print vendor has your data file for several weeks as they prepare to print and send it, and you wish to suppress donors who made a gift in that time frame, you can provide the list to your vendor as well as remove them from your marketing effort since they won't actually receive it.
What Steps are Required
- Create a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file in Excel that includes the Finder numbers that you wish to remove. By default, Excel will save files as .xlsx, when you click Save as be sure to change the file type to be .csv instead.

- Once you have your CSV file created with the Finder numbers you would like to remove, navigate to your marketing effort in DART, and click Remove members.

- Click the upload icon and select your CSV file from the folder you saved it in.

- Once your CSV file is selected, from the drop-down list select the column that contains your Finder numbers and click Save.

- The Remove members process is now started, and will take a few moments to complete the process (larger files/marketing efforts will take additional time). Once the process is complete the number of Records successfully processed is displayed. This should match the number of rows in your CSV file. You may receive a handful of Exceptions if a record was marked deceased or was merged with another record after the marketing effort was activated.

- OPTIONAL. Re-export your marketing effort data without the constituents you just removed. Otherwise, manually delete them from your Marketing Effort data file.
