How can I edit or annotate a PDF or scanned document without printing it out?

When you need to edit or add information to a PDF document and don't have access to a printer, software applications are available to help. For example:

• For both Windows and macOS, Adobe Creative Cloud is available to U-M students, faculty, and staff at no cost. It includes the Adobe Acrobat DC app, which can be used to edit text and images in PDF files as well as convert a scanned document into an editable PDF.
• macOS also comes pre-installed with the Preview app, which provides the ability to annotate a PDF.
