TurnItIn Student Guide

TurnItIn Overview
Turnitin is a plagiarism detection service that measures assignment originality and indicates what percent of your assignment matches internet sources. Once you submit a Turnitin assignment in Canvas, it will automatically review the work and provide a similarity report.

Using TurnItIn
Students access TurnItIn from Canvas assignments that use the functionality. You do not need an additional account or password.

• What is the Similarity Report?
  • “The similarity score is a percentage of the paper's matches to other sources; it is not an assessment of whether the paper includes plagiarized material. The similarity report is a tool for instructors and students to easily find matches or similar text within submitted work.” (Turnitin 2022)
