Kaltura Capture Overview and Use Cases for Faculty
Kaltura Capture software application for Windows and Mac is a personal video capture tool that enables you to record videos using your webcam and microphone. You can record your computer screen, a PowerPoint presentation, or yourself with a webcam. The videos are saved for you to your Canvas account and easily submitted to assignments. Kaltura Capture is downloadable through Canvas. 

Access Kaltura through your Canvas course site.

You can use Kaltura Capture to:

  • Record a voice over PowerPoint lectures, a course tour, and/or video announcements
  • Record feedback on student assignments. Look for a link to Kaltura under the Add a Comment box in Speedgrader.
  • Embed questions in a video.
  • Have students create video assignments.

Instructor Orientation/Training
Kaltura Capture must be downloaded to your computer, this is a one-time download. To download Kaltura, open Canvas and open Account on the global navigation bar. Select My Media and select Add New. If Kaltura has not been installed on your computer, you will be prompted to do so. Follow the instructions to install Kaltura.

  • All University of Michigan faculty already have access to Kaltura Capture. 

How to Configure/Set up Kaltura Capture

Note: When you access Kaltura Capture through Canvas, you are automatically linked to your MiVideo Account.

Testing

  • There is no mandatory testing process for Kaltura Capture, but it is recommended that you practice with the software before the beginning of the term.

  • Download Kaltura Capture onto your computer.
  • Make yourself a test recording to ensure you understand how to use the tool.
  • Plan your Kaltura activities.
  • Post directions in your course regarding how to use Kaltura Capture to complete course activities.
  • Check your share settings.
