Google Workspace Overview and Use Cases for Faculty
Google Workspace has a collection of Internet-based applications similar to Microsoft products such as Word (Google Docs), Excel (Google Sheets), and PowerPoint (Google Slides) that can be beneficial for class collaboration and electronic assignment submission.

While no training is necessary to use Google Workspace, the Google Workspace Learning Center can give you an introduction to this set of tools. Their Quick Tips section may also be helpful.

How to request access for Google Workspace

  • All University of Michigan faculty already have access to Google Workspace. Find the application you are looking for here. (Note: Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms are all embedded in Google Drive.)

How to Configure/Set up Google Workspace

Testing

  • There is no mandatory testing process for Google Workplace. If you would like to see how your document looks to others, you can share with another email address of yours or invite a colleague to look at materials. 

Previously Identified Student Roadblocks
File Storage/File Sharing

  • There have been instances of students purchasing storage instead of using the free resources available to them. If there is group work in your course or other instances where online file storage/file sharing is needed, it may be beneficial to notify students of the ability to utilize Google Drive.
