    What is Typhon?
Typhon is an online clinical tracking and management system that nursing programs use to keep all the “real-world” training data organized. Nursing students log in to record details about their clinical hours, patient encounters, skills performed, and evaluations. Faculty can review the data, approve entries, track progress toward program requirements, and generate reports for accreditation or licensure purposes.

    What is a Preceptor?
A preceptor is an experienced, licensed nurse (or other approved healthcare provider) who supervises and mentors a student during clinical rotations. These providers also review and confirms the student’s work.  Tthese approvals get logged into Typhon for official records.

What is UMSN-IT's area of responsibility with Typhon?

  • Add students to the system.

  • Reset passwords — only for faculty and staff, upon request.

All other requests from students (e.g., enabling/disabling access, adding a preceptor, adding a clinical site, or any other Typhon-related request): Use the "Typhon Student Request Response" template or direct the student to the correct email address based on whether they are a graduate or undergraduate student: umsn-undergradclinicalplacement@med.umich.edu or UMSN-GraduateClinicalPlacement@med.umich.edu.

Because Typhon contains student records required for graduation, we must follow this process and not change anything within the student database outside of adding a student account.

    How is a Preceptor add?

UMSN-IT does not add preceptor's to Typhon.  Students & Faculty need to make this request depending on their program:

  • Graduate clinical placements: email UMSN-GraduateClinicalPlacement@med.umich.edu or call 734-764-0659

  • Undergraduate clinical placements: email UMSN-UndergradAdvisors@med.umich.edu or call 734-764-0092.
