Rename process for departments supported by LSATS

Summary

Whenever an LSATS-supported department decides to change its name, follow this process to make sure all systems and services provided by LSATS and ITS reflect the new name.

Directions 

  1. Reach out to the department's chief administrator (or another representative) with the following questions:
    1. What is your unit's full name now?
    2. Is your unit moving to operating independently or are you a part of a larger unit? If part of a larger unit, what unit?
    3. Is the physical location of your unit changing?
    4. Do you have a department abbreviation in place? (5 characters or less) What is your new abbreviation?
    5. Do you need departmental drive storage migrated to the new abbreviation?
    6. Do you have new accounts and groups that need to be created in order to share that drive space?
    7. Do you have networking or phone needs that are changing?
    8. Do you have website migration needs other than the name change?
    9. Will you need any redirects to your new URL?
    10. Do any of your Mcommunity groups require renames?
    11. Do any of your shared Gmail email addresses\account require renames?
  2. Create a ticket with LSATS Infrastructure with the answers to questions 1 through 4 and 7 above
  3. Create a ticket with the LSATS Service Desk with the answers to questions 5 and 6 above (if any)
  4. Create a ticket with LSATS WADS with the answers to questions 8 and 9 above (if any)
  5. Create a ticket with ITS if the department answered yes to questions 10 and/or 11 above (and provided a list of accounts)
  6. The following should be done automatically but if they aren't, please reach out to the group indicated:
    1. TeamDynamix department name (LSA-TS-TDxAdmins)
    2. Izzy computer container (izzy-support@umich.edu)
