Requesting AFS space

Body

Caution: ITS will retire the AFS service by December 2026 (with limited extensions until June 2027).

Summary

This article discusses how to request an Andrew File System (AFS) account.

Members of the U-M community who are eligible for Standard Computing Services may optionally receive a 10GB allotment of AFS space. The AFS space can be used to store and share files and to publish personal web pages. In some cases, your personal AFS space is used as your home directory when you log into a computer.

New users at the university are no longer issued an AFS account by default, but you can request it easily.

Please note: ITS has already retired the AFS service for retirees and alumni.

Environment
