LSA 2080 technology upgrade

Summary

Detailed overview of the November 2025 technological upgrade to egg-shaped conference and multipurpose room, LSA 2080. Includes notes and discussion regarding the challenges inherent in the unusual and somewhat problematic architectural design of this room.

Body

Nicknamed "The Egg Room" by technicians, LSA 2080 underwent a technological upgrade in late 2025

Basic narrative of the system:

  • Oval-shaped executive conference room space with two HDMI table inputs, a room PC and a Wolfvision wireless video device.
  • The AV rack - including computer - is concealed inside the table legs near the front of the room.
  • A speaker tracking-capable Crestron PTZ camera is installed along with two table mics.
  • A pair of speakers attached to the display, amplified from an amp in the AV rack, provides sound for the room.
  • The connection from the rack to the wall is provided via a metal over-floor raceway; Facilities is still determining whether an in-floor pathway is possible.

Things to know about the room:

  • The table mics and touch panel can be plugged into any of the four table Neutrik connector barrels.
  • There was once a usable boardroom conference phone in the room. LSA facilities is determining its future, as it is a Cisco phone and no longer operable on the campus network, so far as we know.
  • The zoom input/output device on the PC should be Line (TesiraForte) - (USB interface from the Biamp).
    • Touch panel has the ability to enable or disable camera tracking as well as recall any one of 3 camera presets.
    • A preview camera view is also available on the touch panel, though it does have a 1-2 second delay.
  • Note that the Crestron camera does not allow camera presets to be set or changed via programming, so presets can only be modified by a laptop connected to the camera running the Crestron configuration software. Thus, holding the preset buttons does nothing.

Main devices:

Control/Video

  • CP4N AV control system
  • HD-PS622 video switcher with DM Lite receiver behind the display
  • TS-770 on the table
  • IV-CAM-i12 (PTZ Camera)
  • Inogeni Ubridge 3 USB 3.0 extender for the camera (local side in the rack, remote side behind the display)*
  • Standard room PC and Wolfvision Cynap Pure Mini (in the AV rack)**
  • Sharp/NEC M861 display
  • Netgear AV Line network switch

Audio

  • TesiraForte DAN VT4
  • Two MXA310 table mics (remaining)
  • QSC SPA2-200 amp, powering a pair of Leon speakers attached to the display

*Engineers' note - firmware upgrade for the Inogeni extender is a bit of a pain. I will attempt to document it somewhere, it took about a half hour to figure out the proper procedure.

**AV Techs note - I know it was desired to put the PC behind the display. That will not be possible without reconstructing the room very significantly. That said, this is an executive conference room and not a huddle room, and I do not believe the PC is behind the display in any executive conference room. We also don't anticipate PC reboots will be very frequent. If it becomes more prevalent of a need, we can work with facilities on reconstructing the table legs to expose the rack better, or giving the ability to reboot key devices via Innomesh.

! Peanut Gallery note - LSA 2080 is in fact used as both an executive conference room and a meeting space for student groups or anyone else who reserves the space for events that are sometimes catered. Successive technological improvements and this greatly appreciated upgrade have indeed reduced the likelihood of technicians being called into the room to remove the wooden panel from the table to reboot equipment near the floor while an event is in progress - a feat that is difficult or impossible to accomplish while people are seated at the table. Ideally the rack could be relocated to a small credenza to the right of the digital display, where a similar piece of furniture sat unused for many years. Innomesh might well be the simplest solution - hopefully we're not underestimating the amount of rebooting that technicians still have to do in rooms that are not yet Innomesh-enabled.
