Professor John Monnier in the Astronomy Department has a TCP for a research project he is working on. This TCP has a MiDesktop VM that will be storing export controlled data for this research project.

- MiDesktop Image named STARI_SECURE

- 4GB RAM
- 50GB Storage
- Persistent image meaning it won't reset after each logout or restart
Access
- Admin group for the MiDesktop pool and image is LSATS Randall
- LSATS Randall has admin access to the LSA_STARI_SECURE MiDesktop pool through vCenter, Horizon admin console, and regular RDP access
- vCenter gives us access to power on or power down STARI-SECURE and remotely connect to it
- Randall desktop support members don't have access to log into the STARI-SECURE VM through the Omnissa Horizon app or web client
- Access and local admin group to access MiDesktop using the Omnissa Horizon app or web client is STARI-SECURE-Admins
- John will add users that need access to this VM to the STARI-SECURE-Admins mcommunity group to control access to the STARI-SECURE MiDesktop
Security & Support
- Crowdstrike has been installed on this VM
- Contains export controlled data used with John's TCP
- Eliza and Stan are listed in the TCP for IT contacts
- Support guidelines for this MiDesktop are we can control the VM being online or powered off
- We can perform admin functions as needed but John also has admin access
- We provide support for the general use of the VM as far as assisting with the following: installing software, troubleshooting OS issues, restarting the VM if needed, performing OS updates
- ITS controls performance upgrades as far as increasing CPU, Memory, and Storage allocations with the VM
