Asana provides a variety of project templates to support a wide range of project types. You can search for a template directly within the Asana application or on the Asana website.

Choosing a template in the Asana application:

  1. Log in to your Asana account at https://asana.com/ using your U-M login credentials.
  2. In the top left corner, click “Create” and select “Project.”
  3. The next screen will prompt you to select how you would like to start the project. Select “Use a template.”
  4. The left side bar will show a list of project templates.
    • Project templates created and shared in the umich.edu workspace will be shown in the default list. LSA Technology Services is sharing two of their project plan templates for LSA Asana users*:
    • For project templates created by Asana, click “Find inspiration.” The template list will showcase a variety of project plans for different project types.
  5. Click on the template you want to use and click “Use template.”
  6. You will be prompted to add project details:
    • Project name
    • Team - be sure to change this to the appropriate team, as the default may be all LSA-ALL-ASANA-USERS
    • Privacy settings
    • Either a start date or end date
  7. Click “Create Project.” It will take a few minutes for all tasks to populate in your project.
  8. Begin editing the project for your needs, and if appropriate, add the project to a related Asana portfolio (see Asana’s Portfolios overview for additional guidance).

Choosing a template from the Asana website:

  2. Click on the template you would like to use and click “Use template.”
