Accessing the Econ Windows terminal server (Xerxes)

Objective

How to access the Economics Windows terminal server (LSA Xerxes) within the LSA Citrix Environment

Procedure

  1. Windows users should install Citrix via the Microsoft Store and install the Citrix Workspace App.
  2. Mac users should navigate to https://citrix.lsa.umich.edu/
  3. You will be prompted to "Detect Receiver".  Go ahead and click the button.
  4. Tick the box to agree with the license:
    1. Windows Users; Choose "Already installed" [Jump to 12]
    2. MAC users; select "Download" to begin downloading Citrix Receiver.

NOTE:  

If Citrix Receiver is installed, you may be prompted to "Always open applications of this type" with the receiver, the proper configuration should apply after this step, and the rest of the installation steps in this guide can be ignored.

  1. Save the Citrix Receiver installation executable, and open it when it is done downloading. You will be prompted for credentials; login as "UMROOT\<uniqname>".
  2. Select "Start"
  3. Do not click "Enable Single Sign on," and select "Install".
  4. Click "Finish".
  5. Return to the web browser, and select "Continue".
  6. You will be prompted to "Always open files of this type" with the Citrix Receiver app. Tick the box, and select "Open Citrix Receiver launcher".
  7. At the sign on screen, sign in:
    1. Login as "UMROOT\<uniqname>"
    2. Password:  <UMICH password>
  8. Accept the university usage policy.
  9. You should now have access to “LSA Xerxes

Additional notes

It is not necessary to install Citrix Receiver in order to access Citrix: If the browser doesn't detect the receiver, you may still log on, and use the HTLM5 web app that Citrix provides.

Access to this server is limited to Econ Masters (MAE) students, Econ PhD students, and a few others by special request to the ECON Admin Department
