Sharing files on Google Drive for public access via a web link

Use this for setting up files for use as linked files on public web pages or open sharing such as data sets and published articles.

Objective

To setup a file for being shared by link only with no collaboration rights needed.

Environment

Google Drive

Procedure

  1. Start in by going to drive.umich.edu and creating a folder for your files, such as "public-files."
  2. Go into that folder and upload the files you want to make available as public so you can link to them for sharing on your website.
  3. Click on the share button or if a pdf the ... associated with the file you want to share.

  4. Set the sharing to "On - Public on the web" and Save.

  5. You can copy the link next then choose done.
