Configuring a Linux client for an MWireless connection.

MWireless is the most secure U-M Wi-Fi network and should be used by all U-M faculty, staff, students and sponsored guests. Before using the service, you will need to configure settings on your wireless device.

Please note: ITS provides instructions for Ubuntu Linux. These can be used for other distributions, but in the case of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora, it is not necessary to download a certificate. You can use the certificate /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt, which should already be on your computer..

MWireless Configuration Settings:

  • Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
  • Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Anonymous identity: <leave blank>
  • Domain: <leave blank>
  • CA certificate:
    • Ubuntu: /etc/ssl/certs/USERTrust_RSA_Certification_Authority.pem
    • RHEL/Fedora: /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
    • If your distribution does not have a certificate, one can be downloaded here.
  • PEAP version: Automatic
  • Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Username: <U-M email address>
  • Password: <UMICH password>
