Dropbox: "That team name is in use. Please start over again" (Team Folder Request Form Error)

Issue

I used the form to request the creation of a Dropbox Team Folder and immediately got an error message stating, "That team name is in use. Please start over again."

Resolution

There may be several reasons why you are receiving this error message:

  • You are a student, temporary staff, or sponsored affiliate and tried to submit a Team Folder creation request.
    • Students, temporary staff, and sponsored affiliates cannot create Team Folders. Only those faculty or regular staff members.
  • You are a faculty or regular staff member who owns more than 300 MCommunity groups. 
  • You recently changed departments and have a new department ID.
  • You may need to clear your browser cache and cookies and refresh the page.
    • You could also try opening the request form in an incognito window or different browser.
