Is Zoom Chat available at the university? What is the difference between Zoom Chat and the Zoom in-meeting/webinar chat?
Resolution
Zoom Chat (formerly Zoom Team Chat) is a service separate from U-M Zoom and is not available at U-M.
Furthermore, Zoom Chat is not the same as in-meeting/in-webinar chat. While both are messaging solutions that enable you to communicate via instant messaging, Zoom Chat and in-meeting/in-webinar chat serve two different purposes. Zoom Chat is a workstream collaboration service, like Slack and Google Chat, that enables you to message and collaborate in the Zoom desktop and mobile apps at any time. In-meeting/in-webinar chat is available only within your Zoom meetings/webinars and lets you message all participants/attendees in the session or send private messages to individual participants.
Additional Information
Zoom changed the name of Zoom Team Chat to Zoom Chat in March 2026.
