Zoom: Canvas Error Message Says to Create Account to Use Integration

Summary

This article provides additional information on the warning message that may display when trying to access U-M Zoom through Canvas.

Body

Environment

U-M Canvas, U-M Zoom

Issue

I am attempting to enable the Zoom integration for my Canvas course, but when I click "Zoom" in the navigation, I receive an error message stating that I need to create a Zoom account. However, I already created my U-M Zoom account.

Resolution

  • The Zoom integration in Canvas searches for a U-M Zoom account that matches your default email address in Canvas. If it can't find one, it will present the error.
  • If you're certain that you already created your U-M Zoom account, then the default email address in your Canvas account is not your @umich.edu email address.
  • Canvas allows accounts to set alternate email addresses as their default, even if it's not an @umich.edu email address.
  • Refer to the Instructure Community page for instructions on changing your default email address in Canvas to your @umich.edu email address.
    • After doing so, you should be able to connect your Canvas course with U-M Zoom.
