Issue
An ITS system, application, or service experiences a degradation, outage, or other problem that does not allow users to do their work
Resolution
ITS has an internal process to manage Major Incidents. Unit IT Partners can join a GoogleChat room to ask questions, provide input, ask to be invited to the meeting directly, etc.
Join the ITS Major Incidents Status Google Chat Space
- Contact ITS.Customer.Relations@umich.edu to request that you be added to the ITS Major Incidents Status Chat space.
- If you are invited to join the space as part of an MCommunity group, you will receive an email invitation containing a link to join the space.
- If you receive an email invitation, click Open in Google Chat.
- The space will automatically open within your Gmail or within the Google Chat desktop client or mobile app, depending on your device and settings.
- If you are invited as an individual (not as part of an MCommunity group), you will automatically be added to the space and will not receive an email invitation. Depending on your Chat Settings & Notifications, you may receive a Chat notification.
- Rooms you are a member of are listed in the Chat menu of your Gmail.
Google Chat Settings & Notifications
- Click the gear icon in Gmail, and then click See all settings.
- Click Chat and Meet to view or change your settings.
- Click Manage chat settings to set your notification preferences.
- Remember to click Save Changes before exiting.
- Learn more about Chat notifications options.
- Chat Desktop Client, Mobile App and Web App.
- You can open Google Chat in a separate browser at chat.google.com.
- Sign in with your U-M uniqname and UMICH password and complete Duo two-factor authentication if prompted.
- You can download the Chat mobile app for Android or iOS, or the desktop client. You may also need to update your app settings and notifications.
