Google: Change Name in U-M Gmail

This article provides instructions for changing your name that appears in U-M Google Mail (Gmail).

Issue

I would like to change my name in my Google Mail.

Resolution

To change your name in your Gmail only:

1. Go to U-M Gmail.
2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner and click See all settings.
3. Click the Accounts tab.
4. Locate the email address you'd like to edit in the “Send mail as:” section and click edit info beside the address.
5. Enter what you’d like your name to be in the "Name" field and click Save Changes.
   • If you are editing the name for your default U-M email address, select and enter your updated name in the empty text field below your primary name in the "Name" section.

Additional Information

If you would like to change your name across all U-M Google products (Drive, Gmail, etc.) and/or the above solution doesn't work:

1. Go to your Google My Account page.
2. Click the right carrot arrow (>) beside Name.
3. Enter your updated first and last name in the respective fields as desired.
4. Click Save.
