Missing Question Types in New Qualtrics Surveys (New Survey Taking Experience)

This article explains how the New Survey Taking Experience layout for new Qualtrics surveys affect certain features and how to toggle off the layout to access the unsupported features.

Issue

In a new survey, certain question types are missing (Hot Spot, Heat Map, Highlight, Screen Capture).

Resolution

 As of June 3, 2026, all new Qualtrics surveys are using the New Survey Taking Experience layout (formerly called the Simple Layout) by default. Surveys created before this date on the legacy experience will stay on the legacy experience.

Unsupported features

• The New Survey Taking Experience layout currently has some unsupported features such as certain question types: Hot Spot, Heat Map, Highlight, Screen Capture.
• In order to use those questions types in a new survey, toggle off the New Survey Taking Experience via Survey options: Reverting to the Legacy Experience.
