Google: 400 Error on First Time Log In to Google Services

Issue

Users with a brand new Google account may encounter the following error upon first log in attempt: "Error 400 The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried."

Resolution

You can log in through another browser to resolve this issue:

  1. Open a browser different from where you received the error (for example, if you received the error in the Google Chrome browser, open Safari, Edge or Firefox instead).
  2. Navigate to mail.umich.edu.
  3. When prompted, log into your UMICH account.

If you continue to receive the error, try clearing cache and cookies in your browser and attempt the steps again.
