Issue

I want to quickly move, snap, or resize windows using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse to improve multitasking and window management.

Resolution

You can use the Windows key combined with arrow keys to move and resize windows efficiently:

  • Move a Window to the Left or Right Half of the Screen
    • Click the window to make it active.
    • Press Windows Key + Left Arrow to snap it to the left half.
    • Press Windows Key + Right Arrow to snap it to the right half.
    • The window will resize to fill that half of the screen.
  • Move a Window to the Top or Bottom of the Screen
    • Select the window to activate it.
    • Press Windows Key + Up Arrow to maximize the window.
    • Press Windows Key + Down Arrow to restore or minimize the window depending on its current state:
      • If maximized, it will restore.
      • If restored, it will minimize.
  • Snap a Window to a Corner (Quarter Screen)
    • Press Windows Key + Left Arrow or Windows Key + Right Arrow first.
    • Then press Windows Key + Up Arrow or Windows Key + Down Arrow.
    • Example:
      • Windows + Left then Windows + Up places the window in the top-left corner.
      • Windows + Right then Windows + Down places the window in the bottom-right corner.
  • Move Windows Between Monitors
    • Select the window.
    • Press Windows Key + Shift + Left Arrow or Windows Key + Shift + Right Arrow to move the window to the next monitor.
