Issue
My Dropbox Team Folder has disappeared from my account, and I received a notification that the managing MCommunity group has been deleted. How do I claim the Team Folder to prevent it from also being deleted?
Resolution
Team Folders whose managing MCommunity group is deleted:
- Within 24 hours of the group being deleted - Team Folder access is restricted. Members/collaborators will notice that it and its contents have disappeared from their U-M Dropbox accounts.
- Within 90 days of the group being deleted - An owner (i.e., an owner of the deleted MCommunity group) needs to claim the Team Folder in the ITS Team Folder Manager tool before 90 days are up.
- After 90 days of the group being deleted - The Team Folder and all its content are considered abandoned and permanently deleted.
Important: If you would like to use the same MCommunity group name/email to manage your Team Folder, you must
re-create the group before following the steps below to claim it.
To claim an expired Team Folder before it is deleted:
- Go to the ITS Team Folder Manager tool.
- Click Import/Claim a Team Folder.
- Select the affected Team Folder from the first drop-down menu provided.
- Select your school, college, or unit from the drop-down menu provided.
- Select the MCommunity group that you would like to use to control who has access to the Team Folder.
- If you didn’t re-create the original MCommunity group before completing this form, it will not appear as an option for you to select.
- Only groups you are an owner of will appear here.
- You must create and own an MCommunity group before you can select it.
- Select I Confirm from the confirmation drop-down.
- Click Import Team Folder.
It may take up to 24 hours for all settings and access in the Team Folder to be updated in Dropbox.
