Google: Custom Sites URL Does Not Show in Address Bar

Summary

This article provides guidance on why your custom web address/URL doesn't appear for individuals who visit your Google Site.

Issue

The custom web address/URL in your Google Site does not appear in the address bar.

Resolution

To ensure your custom umich.edu URL appears in the address bar when users visit your Google Site, verify that the site is shared publicly. If the site is only shared with specific people or restricted to the University of Michigan, visitors will see the original URL (https://sites.google.com/umich.edu/example) instead of the custom URL (https://example.its.umich.edu).

To change your Site's settings so your custom URL appears:

  1. Go to U-M Google Sites and open the Site you want to change.
  2. Click the "Share with others" icon (person with a plus sign) in the top right corner.
  3. Select Public from the "Published site" drop-down menu.
  4. Click Done.
