Issue

How do I use Google Translate to translate documents?

Note: Google Translate is an Additional Service. This means ITS does not support the service or receive support from Google when issues arise.

Resolution

Refer to the Google Help Center to learn more about using Google Translate to translate documents.

The Help Center article includes information on the following:

  • Translating websites
    • Switching between the original and translated website
    • Changing the translated language
  • Translating documents

Important things to note about the feature:

  • You can translate documents up to 10MB in the following formats: .docx, .pdf, .pptx, and .xlsx.
  • PDF files must be 300 pages or less.
  • Document translation isn’t available on smaller screens or mobile.
  • You can find text in images and scanned PDF pages in the output document, but they haven’t been translated.
  • To automatically set the original language of a document, click Detect language.
