Dropbox: Feature Limitations of the Microsoft Office 365 Web Integration

This article provides information about feature limitations in Microsoft 365 Online when using it via the Dropbox web integration.

Environment

U-M Dropbox, Microsoft (Office) 365 web integration

Issue

Some features available in Microsoft 365 apps, such as PowerPoint, are unavailable when editing these files from U-M Dropbox using the built-in Microsoft 365 web integration.

Resolution

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be full feature parity between the standard Microsoft 365 apps and the U-M Dropbox Microsoft 365 web integration when editing Microsoft files. 

The following are workarounds to this limitation:

• Open the Microsoft file you'd like to edit directly in Microsoft 365 Online instead of through the Dropbox web integration.
• Use the local Microsoft desktop applications on your computer to edit the file for full-feature access (if possible).
  • Remember, sponsored affiliates and Michigan Medicine affiliates don't have access to the Microsoft 365 desktop apps, only online.

If you want the file to be stored in U-M Dropbox, you can reupload the file to Dropbox after making your edits in the other Microsoft 365 apps.
