Google: Request Access Error After Shared Drive Creation

Summary

This article explains why you would receive an access request error after creating a Google shared drive.

Body

Environment

U-M Google, shared drives

Issue

I just requested to create a new Google shared drive and assigned myself as a Manager. However, when I try to open it after creating it, I receive an error message that prompts me to request access, even when I should already have access. Why does this happen?

Resolution

There is a four-hour delay between requesting the creation of a Google shared drive and you (the creator/Manager) being granted permissions and access to the drive.

You will need to wait at least four hours before attempting to access the shared drive. After four hours, the drive should appear in your shared drives view in Google Drive. However, it could take up to 24 hours. If after 24 hours you still don't have access to the shared drive, please contact the ITS Service Center.
