Issue
- How do I move a folder into a Dropbox Team Folder?
- How do I move a folder out of a Dropbox Team Folder?
Resolution
To move a folder into a Dropbox Team Folder:
- Hover over the folder you want to move and click the three-dot icon to the far right.
- Select Move from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll through your list of folders and Team Folders and select the Team Folder to which you want to move the folder. Click Move once selected.
To move a folder out of a Dropbox Team Folder:
- Select and open the Team Folder from which you want to move a folder.
- Hover over the folder you want to move and click the three-dot icon to the far right.
- Select Move from the drop-down menu.
- Click University of Michigan under "Move 1 item to..." at the top of the dialog box. Click your member folder or another Team Folder.

- Select your desired location. Click Move.
Note: If you receive an error that you cannot move the folder, it is likely that the folder or subsequent subfolders are shared with users beyond what is inherited from the parent Team folder ("Parent + Others") OR they are not shared with the groups inherited from the parent Team Folder ("Limited"). The subfolder (and any subfolders within) must be shared only with the parent group to move out of the Team folder successfully.
Additional Information
Previously, moving folders out of a Team Folder was resolved by copying the data, pasting it into the new location, and then deleting the data from the Team Folder. However, the above steps provide a more direct method of moving the data.
