How do I enable and use the Zoom annotation tool?

Resolution

Meeting participants can add annotations while screen sharing or viewing someone else's screen share.

Enabling annotations

  1. Go to U-M Zoom and click Sign in.
  2. Click Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Click the Meeting tab.
  4. Click In Meeting (Basic) and scroll until you find the Annotation setting. Verify that Annotation is enabled.
  5. If the setting is not enabled, click the toggle to enable it. If a verification dialog displays, click Turn On to verify the change.
  6. (Optional) Check the "Allow saving of shared screens with annotations" box.
  7. (Optional) Check the "Only the user who is sharing can annotate" box to restrict annotation to only the participant sharing content. (This should be OFF by default.)

Using the annotation tool

  • Hosts
    • While sharing your screen, click Annotate to view the available annotation tools.
    • To enable meeting participants to annotate, you must have the option "Only the user who is sharing can annotate" unchecked in your meeting account settings. (Refer to Step 7 above.)
  • Participants
    • Annotations must be permitted for meeting participants.
    • The host or another meeting participant must begin screen sharing.
      • At the top of the screen share, click "View options" > "Annotate" to open the annotation tools.
