Change Marital Status on Paystubs/Paychecks

Issue

The 'Marital Status' listed on paystubs/paychecks is incorrect.

Resolution

The 'Marital Status' is based on the information submitted on the W-4 Federal Tax Information form.

To review and make changes, employees should use the following steps:

  1. Go to Wolverine Access.
  2. Click Faculty & Staff collection.
  3. Select ​​​​​​​Employee Self Service.​​​​​​​
  4. Select ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Payroll and Compensation.​​​​​​​
  5. Select ​​​​​​​W-4 Federal Tax Information in the left-navigation.
  6. Select the correct status for the ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Filing Status section.
  7. Click Submit at the bottom of the page.

Note: The status update should process almost immediately - you may need to leave Employee Self Service and navigate back to the W-4 Federal Tax Information page to see the change.

Additional Information

An employee cannot update their Federal W-4 information using the web if the employee is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. In such cases, the employee must fax or mail the IRS hardcopy Federal W-4 Form to the Payroll office. For more information visit this link: Finance | Federal W-4 Form & Instructions
