Issue

How can I add U-M Slack workspaces to the Slack desktop app when I have external workspaces already added to the Slack desktop app?

Resolution

Note: You must first sign into U-M Slack at https://slack.umich.edu/ to create a U-M Slack account prior to adding U-M Slack workspaces.

  1. Go to https://slack.umich.edu/ and sign in if prompted
    1. If you need to sign in, select “Sign in with U-M Weblogin” and use your UMICH (Level-1) login and password
  2. Click the “Launch in Slack” button for the workspace you would like to add to the Slack desktop app
  3. Click the “Open Slack” button when prompted
  4. The Slack app should automatically open to the workspace that was just added
    1. You can switch between your workspaces using the associated workspace icon in the top-left side of the app
  5. Repeat steps 2 – 3 above for each additional workspace, if needed

If you have issues with the above process, follow the instructions below for adding the workspaces to the Slack app.

  1. Open the Slack desktop app
  2. Click the Slack Workspace from the top-right corner of the app
  3. Click “Add workspaces”
  4. Click “Sign in to another workspace”
  5. A web browser will open asking you to choose a workspace
    1. Select the “Or sign into a new workspace here” link
  6. On the Sign in to Slack screen, select the “sign in manually instead” link
  7. Enter “umich.enterprise” in the Slack URL field and click the “Continue” button
  8. Click the “Launch in Slack” button for the workspace you would like to add to the Slack desktop app
  9. Click the “Open Slack” button when prompted
  10. The Slack app should automatically open to the workspace that was just added
    1. You can switch between your workspaces using the associated workspace icon in the top-left side of the app
  11. Repeat steps 8 – 9 for each additional workspace if needed
