Installing and Signing In to Slack on Your Device (Desktop, Mobile, Web)

Environment

U-M Slack

Issue

  • How do I install Slack on my computer or mobile phone?
  • How do I sign in to U-M Slack in the desktop/mobile apps and the web browser?
  • How do I add my hidden workspaces back to my workspace filter in the Slack desktop app?

Resolution

For detailed steps on installing and signing in to U-M Slack from the Slack desktop app, mobile app, and web browser, refer to Installing and Signing In to Slack on Your Device. This documentation also includes how to sign in to additional external (non-UM) workspaces from the app/browser.

Note: You no longer have to sign in to additional U-M Slack workspaces to have them appear in your desktop or mobile apps. All U-M Slack workspaces you are a member or admin of are automatically included in every app you're signed into.

If you previously hid a workspace from your workspace filter view, you can add the workspace back by following these instructions:

  1. Click the All workspaces drop-down under University of Michigan (at the top of the left channel sidebar).
  2. Select Edit and reorder workspaces from the menu.
  3. Search for the workspace in the Add a workspace search field and click its name from the list provided to add it back.

(This cannot be done via the mobile app. Only the desktop app or browser.)
