Linux users connecting to MWireless or Eduroam

Resolution

NOTE: The Distribution of Linux being used MUST support Enterprise Authentication.  If it does not, consider using MSetup: Connect IoT (Internet of Things) Devices to the Campus WiFi Network Using MSetup.

These instructions are somewhat specific to Ubuntu 18.04, but should apply to most other flavors and distros and other non debian based *nix platforms.

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon on the rigth corner and click "Edit Connections..."
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network (MWireless) and click "Edit"
    1. You may need to scroll down or click More to see MWireless
    2. If you device only supports 2.4 GHz choose Eduroam - the setup is the same
  3. Click "Wi-Fi Security" tab
    1. Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
    2. Set Authentication to "Protected EAP (PEAP)"
    3. Anonymous identity: [leave blank]
    4. Domain: [leave blank]
    5. CA certificate: /etc/ssl/certs/USERTrust_RSA_Certification_Authority.pem

    6. Set PEAP Version to "Automatic"
    7. Set Inner Authentication to "MSCHAPv2"
    8. username: uniqname@umich.edu
    9. password: UMICH (Level-1) campus password
  4. Click Save or Connect
