Windows 7 and Server 2008 Support Has Ended

Environment

Windows 7

Issue

Support of Windows 7 has come to an end.

Resolution

Microsoft is no longer providing security updates or support for Windows 7 and Server 2008 as of January 14, 2020. Unsupported software does not receive security updates, which puts your computer and data at risk. To avoid security-related risks and support issues, upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as possible.

Computers running Windows 7 are increasingly vulnerable to malware and other attacks.

  • ITS MiWorkspace staff members have worked with unit IT staff to upgrade computers to Windows 10 wherever possible
  • Health Information Technology & Services staff members have updated Michigan Medicine devices running Windows 7
  • If you have Windows 7 on personal devices that are not managed by the university, you need to upgrade to Windows 10. The consultants at U-M Tech Consulting can help you figure out what you need to do to upgrade your Windows software.
