Environment
U-M Google, Google Drive
Issue
I'm an alum who owns data in U-M Google Drive that I don't need anymore, but should probably be owned by a current faculty member at U-M. What should I do?
Resolution
If you are an alum who owns data in U-M Google Drive you don't need anymore, and you want to get rid of it to reduce your storage limit, you should consider whether it is research or instructional data a current faculty member may want to keep.
If you think a faculty member may want to keep the data, you should send them an email stating that you own data in Google that they may want to keep, explain what the data is, ask them if they'd like you to transfer ownership to them, and tell them you plan to permanently delete it if not.
- If they respond and would like you to transfer ownership to them or their Google shared drive, refer to Transfer Ownership of Files and Folders in Google Drive for instructions.
- If they do not respond and/or they tell you they don't need it, you can proceed with deleting it so you can remain under the 15GB alumni storage limit in U-M Google.
