Tandem is rarely wrong.
Tandem uses a sophisticated tracking system that shows us and your instructors. We work closely with your instructors to make sure Tandem is running smoothly in your course. It is extremely rare for Tandem to fail to grant credit for something that you completed on time.
Tandem tracks:
Think you should have credit for something?
The first place to check is the yellow sidebar on your dashboard. This will list the activities that Tandem has marked as assigned, past due, or locked.
Did I get credit for completing the assignment?
Please see your course syllabus for information on how much credit is assigned to each item on Tandem. As long as you completed the assignment before the due date, you’ll get credit.
Check your completion status
The Assignment History page shows an overview of everything you’ve been assigned in Tandem this term. To check your history, click the Account dropdown in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, and select “Assignment History”.
Check the icon next to each assignment:
-
Green checkmark: Assignment completed and you received credit.
-
Red circle with a dash. Assignment is incomplete and you have not yet received credit. You can still complete this assignment for credit.
-
Red circle with clock hands. Assignment is closed and you did not receive credit.
Tips to make sure you receive credit
-
Assignments must be COMPLETE by 11:59pm on the due date. Often, students will start an assignment before 11:59pm but not submit until after midnight. You will only receive credit if you complete the assignment before 11:59pm.
-
Make sure you get all the way to the end. Sometimes students will make it to the end of an assignment and leave the page without clicking “Next” on the last page. Tandem will not mark an assignment as complete until you have clicked “Next” on the final page of the assignment. When the assignment is complete, Tandem will take you back to your Overview page.
A note about academic (dis)honesty
The gist: We can tell when students are lying about completing Tandem assignments. Lying about Tandem completions is against the Honor Code.
The details:
Every semester we get student emails stating that Tandem didn’t give them credit for an assignment that they completed on time. Those emails almost never result in credit being granted. Tandem’s tracking system allows us to see when students log in and what they click on during that time.
A handful of the emails we receive are honest mistakes (see “Tips to make sure you receive credit” above to avoid these). But, the majority of the emails are students trying to gain extra points after missing an assignment. Some students even create fake screenshots to show us the “problem.” Please don’t be this student.
Lying to gain points for incomplete work is academic dishonesty according to the University Honor Code. We work closely with your instructors to check every student credit claim against our tracking logs. We report our findings to your instructor so they will know when students have lied. We are able to check screenshots against server logs, program fonts, program features, and colors.
We welcome emails about real issues and encourage students to think about the potential consequences of emailing us about fake issues.
