How to check a student’s Tandem activity?

Tandem uses a sophisticated activity tracking system. That system allows you to see each of your students’ Tandem activity. Tandem automatically grants credit when a student submits the final page of an assignment. If Tandem did not grant credit then the student did not complete the assignment on time.

How to view student activity

  1. Log in to Tandem

  2. Choose your course

  3. Click “Menu” in the upper left corner

  4. Click “Students”

  5. Click “Individuals”

  6. Search for the student you are interested in

  7. Click the student card and the Individual Details for that student will appear

For each student, you can see:

  • Completed assignments

  • Incomplete assignments

  • Completion times

  • Full history of time-stamped Tandem logins

  • Team Check history

* Do you have a pop-up blocker turned on? If the modal doesn’t appear when you click the student’s name, make sure your browser will allow pop-ups.

Check to see if a student should have received credit

We get quite a few emails from students claiming that they have completed an assignment but did not receive credit. Before emailing Tandem Support, please follow the steps below.

If you have a student asking about missed credit:

  • Open the student’s Individual Details. Use the steps described in “How to view student activity.”

  • Check the completion status of the assignment. There are three possible status indicators:

    • Green checkmark: Assignment completed and student received credit.

    • Red circle with a dash. Assignment is incomplete and the student has not yet received credit.

    • Red circle with clock hands. Assignment is closed and the student did not receive credit.

Check student activity against assignment completion

We receive many support tickets from students asserting that Tandem has made a mistake and not properly captured their assignment completion.

In those situations, we typically find that one of four things has happened:

  1. The student made an honest mistake and thought they had completed the assignment but did not.

  2. The student is being academically dishonest and did not even log in during the assignment period.

  3. The student finished the assignment moments after it was due and expects to receive credit because they began the assignment before the time due.

  4. Tandem has a bug. Tandem isn’t perfect and students sometimes uncover bugs. It is rare for this to be the case.

How to check it Tandem made a mistake

  • Look at when the assignment was due. Click the blue arrow next to the assignment to see its release and due dates.

  • Look at the student’s login history and compare that to the release and due dates for the lesson. Find the 5 most recent logins in the lower left corner of the pop-up window. If you need to see farther back, click on “ALL LOGINS”

  • Compare the login dates to the assignment release and due dates. Oftentimes, students have not even logged in to Tandem during the open period for the assignment.

  • If there is no login during the open period, the student did not attempt the assignment.

If there is a login during the open period and you think the student is telling the truth, please send an email to Tandem Support. We can confirm exactly what the student did or did not do on the assignment in question. Please remind students that lying about completing assignments is academic dishonesty. We receive many false claims that students have completed assignments and they take up a lot of our time.
