In some educational settings, you may want to allow students to grade their own submission. But what exactly does this entail?
Student-logged grading empowers students to self-report their grades for a particular assignment. During an open time period, students have the opportunity to select their self-assessed score from a predefined list of grade levels provided by the instructor. Alternatively, if grade levels are not specified, students can simply indicate that they completed the work and earn full points.
This approach fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability among students, as they play an active role in assessing their own performance. It also provides instructors with valuable insights into students' self-perceptions of their work, which can inform discussions and interventions regarding student progress.
To use the student-logged grading style on an assignment:
1. Click on “Assignments” from the left-hand navigation bar
2. Create a new assignment by clicking "Add A New Assignment +", or navigate to the assignment you wish to change to pass/fail. If you're modifying an existing assignment:
a. Click the assignment name. You will be taken to the "Descriptions and Downloads" page which displays the descriptions and attachments of this assignment
b. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, find the button for "Edit" which will allow you to make changes to the assignment
3. Next, click on the "Details" tab. Scroll down until you find the "Grading Style" section of the page.
4. Select "student-logged."

Note: Student-logged assignments cannot accept resubmissions
