Licensed Child Care Provider

Body

Does my child care provide have to be licensed in the State of Michigan for me to receive the U-M Child Care Subsidy?

Yes. This is required for several reasons. Using a licensed provider allows the university to readily verify and assess a provider’s qualifications and whether the person or facility has up-to-date licensing. Using licensed providers also sets a higher standard for child care and provides some liability protection to the university.

If you use an unlicensed provider or a provider licensed in a different state, contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss your options. Sometimes these costs can be included as an educational expense so that you can pursue other types of scholarship/grant funding through your department or additional borrowing.
