Will U-M give me credit for AP and/or IB exams?
The University of Michigan offers college credit for many Advanced Placement (AP) and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams depending on the score received. Information on AP and/or IB credits and their transferability is reviewed when an admitted student attends orientation.
Please visit the AP, IB Credit webpage for information regarding what credit you will be eligible to receive. Most AP exam test scores of 4 or higher will result in some college credit being granted. AP credit cannot count towards distribution requirements. Historically, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has awarded credit for IB Higher Level examinations passed with scores of 5 (or in some subjects 6 or above). The university does not give credit for standard level examinations.
Scores may be initially self-reported, but credit cannot be posted without receipt of an official score report. Incoming first-year students who have taken AP tests or IB tests and have had the official test results sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will have this credit articulated in late summer. When the credit posts, you will be sent an email notifying you that the additional credit is being added to your unofficial transcript.
If you are an applicant and are unsure of which test(s) you would like to take or need information regarding a particular exam, please visit the AP, IB Credit webpage.
