Residential College (RC)

Body

What is the Residential College (RC), and how do I apply to it?

The Residential College (RC) is a four-year interdisciplinary liberal arts program within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). It’s both an academic unit and a vibrant living-learning community, housed in East Quadrangle Residence Hall. RC students live and learn together, taking small, discussion-based classes (usually 9–20 students) and engaging in hands-on experiences across the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The RC advising office is located in East Quadrangle as are many faculty offices, creating easy access to academic resources and support.

Being in the RC means you get the best of both worlds: all the opportunities and resources of LSA, plus the added benefits of a close-knit community with its own majors, minors, and unique courses. RC students are known for their global curiosity, commitment to social justice, and active engagement on campus and in the world.

RC Admissions

Admission to the Residential College (RC) is open to any student admitted to the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). There is no separate application, essay, or interview. Instead, students confirm their interest by submitting the RC Interest Form, which helps the admissions team prioritize admission based on fit.
