Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record)

What is a Form I-94?

Form I-94 is also known as the Arrival/Departure Record. It serves as proof of legal visitor status for international travelers admitted to the U.S. as non-immigrants.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) creates this document in an electronic format at the port of entry when the individual goes through inspection upon arrival in the U.S. The DHS official will endorse the I-94 with the date, place of arrival, status (i.e., F, J, H, L, etc.), and length of authorized stay.

Those who need to prove their legal visitor status—to employers, schools/universities, or government agencies—can access their arrival/departure record information on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
