What is the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA)?
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) is the largest college at U-M, offering more majors, more flexibility, and more possibilities when you graduate. LSA is built upon the idea that a powerful, pragmatic, broad education can transform hearts and minds, can solve problems in an ever-changing world, and can yield ideas and innovation across every discipline. What does it mean to study the liberal arts in LSA? It's learning the skills to analyze, innovate, and lead — and using that knowledge to make the world better. You'll think through complex questions, like what motivates people to vote or join a protest. How do societies function? What are the political, environmental, societal, and economic implications of a business decision? Think of the liberal arts as the study of everything…that prepares you to do anything. What you wonder about, and pursue, is completely up to you.
Some of the best lessons happen outside the classroom. LSA students study abroad across six continents, intern around the world, and work on research projects with faculty. The College supports off-campus learning through the U-M Biological Station in northern Michigan, the Camp Davis Rocky Mountain Field Station in Wyoming, the New England Literature Program, and more. In addition, LSA's Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program has been ranked the best program of its kind in the U.S. Finally, from your first day on campus, you’ll have access to the LSA Opportunity Hub, a transformative career exploration center that connects LSA students with internship and job opportunities, employers, and LSA's extensive network of alums.
